Angel – trumpet (Brugmansia x candida) when to prune (AUSTRALIA -NSW ) ?
when is the best time to prune Angel trumpets (Brugmansia x candida) in subtropical Sydney? Its autumn , almost winter now. Should I prune now or wait til spring ; the plant is getting out of shape already. 2.5 mtrs. tall .Any feedback that makes sense is appreciated, thanks.
Cut back but give very little water. Now is the best time, do not fertilize til spring. You can also make cuttings and root in soil for next year. Larger cuttings put into water first, then transplant to soil and slowly reduce watering and temperature til spring. I’ve done it both ways. Careful with the cuttings, they are poisonous and should be discarded. Spread newspapers around plant for drips and then discard. You can cut back drastically if you want.
